The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the resumption of the inspection of ships under the grain deal

Sergey Vershinin, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that ship inspections under the grain deal had been resumed. At the same time, the official noted that Moscow sees no prospects for a further extension of the grain deal in July.

“The joint coordination center in Istanbul is working to overcome all the problems that arise, based on the procedural rules that were approved last year and assume that there will be a consensus solution to the problems that arise. Now these inspections have been resumed, ”said the deputy head of the department, answering questions from journalists (quoted from “RIA News”).

According to TASS citing the UN representative at the Joint Coordinating Center, inspections of ships under the grain deal resumed on 4 June.

Mr. Vershinin also added that the Russian Foreign Ministry does not yet see prospects for extending the grain deal, but they continue consultations on this matter. “We see no prospects for extending the deal. But we continue, of course, consultations with UN representatives on both parts of those package agreements that were signed in July last year,” he added.

In May, Russia officially extended participation in a grain deal concluded in the summer of 2022 with Ukraine with the participation of the UN and Turkey. It involves opening ports in Ukraine for the export of agricultural products, as well as unblocking the export of Russian food and fertilizers. Moscow has threatened to stop the implementation of the agreement after July 17 if its demands are not met, including the reconnection of Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT.
