Golikova announced a decrease in the number of unemployed registered in employment centers

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova held a meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the restoration of the labor market. During the event, she reminded about a record unemployment rate in April, noting that the number of unemployed people registered in employment centers has decreased by 41,000 since the beginning of the year.

“The unemployment rate according to the ILO methodology in April updated its historical minimum – 3.3%. The number of unemployed people registered in employment centers is 523,000, which is 41,000 less than at the beginning of the year,” the government press service quoted her as saying.

At the same time, more than 1.8 million vacancies have been posted on the Jobs of Russia portal, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Labor Minister Anton Kotyakov, in turn, said that as part of the recruitment subsidy program, about 15,000 employers have already sent applications for 100,000 jobs, 16,000 people have been employed. Thanks to the free retraining program provided by the Demography national project, about 60,000 Russians began to learn professions that are in demand on local labor markets.

The meeting participants also discussed the federal stage of the All-Russian Job Fair scheduled for June 23. Panel discussions will be held in Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Moscow and Tula, while the business program will be broadcast on the Job of Russia portal.

According to Rosstat, the unemployment rate in Russia was 3.3% in April. The previous low was recorded two months ago – in February (3.5%), wrote “Vedomosti”. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously pointed out that low unemployment does not mean that “all problems in the labor market have already been resolved.” According to him, questions about the quality of jobs remain open. “In some regions and localities, the unemployment rate is still much higher than the national average. At enterprises where output has declined, teams are partially loaded and work part-time. It is clear that this has a negative impact on wages,” he said.

In March 2023, a Russian received an average of 71,334 rubles, which is 6.3% more than in the same period last year. By February 2023, the indicator increased by 9.5%. In real terms, wages increased by 2.7% yoy and by 9.1% mom.

In mid-May, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with Putin reportedthat the salaries of Russians in real terms increased by 3% over the year. As Golikova noted at the time, according to the results of 2022, real wages, according to updated Rosstat data (taking into account data on small and medium-sized enterprises), increased by 0.4%.
