The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the horrific situation with radioactive waste in Ukraine

The situation with the storage of hazardous radioactive waste in Ukraine is becoming appalling. This is stated in comments official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova in connection with information that hazardous radioactive waste at the Pridneprovsky chemical plant is stored in violation of safety requirements.

“The situation with the storage of hazardous radioactive waste (RAW) in Ukraine is becoming appalling. Indeed, the total amount of waste generated from the processing of uranium ores by <...> Pridneprovsky Chemical Plant is 42 million tons,” the statement says.

This waste, Zakharova noted, remains a dangerous source of environmental pollution. Thus, there is a high probability of about 12 million tons of waste entering the Dnieper and groundwater if the dam of one of the nearest storage facilities is washed away. And about 14 tons of radioactive dust are spread throughout the surrounding area every year, ending up on agricultural land.

“According to our information, Kiev does not allocate funding to ensure the environmental safety of the facilities of the Dnieper chemical plant, which ultimately could lead to an environmental disaster not only in the territory controlled by the Kiev regime, but also beyond its borders,” Zakharova added.

November 8, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev reportedthat Kyiv has already made attempts to attack the Leningrad, Kalinin and Kursk nuclear power plants amid a lack of success on the battlefield. The previous time the Kursk nuclear power plant was attacked with three drones on October 26. Zakharova then stated that as a result, “the walls of the nuclear waste storage facility were damaged.” Two more drones fell on a complex of administrative buildings.

Earlier, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, in an interview with the Ukrainian publication NV, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces made three attempts to attack and seize the Zaporizhia NPP. According to him, in August 2022, GUR special forces crossed the Kakhovskoe reservoir in the Energodar area in high-speed boats to capture the station. After this, the Ukrainian military tried two more times to land on the left bank of the Dnieper with the aim of capturing the Zaporizhia NPP. All attacks were repulsed by the Russian army.
