The Russian Federation will provide asylum to a Wagner fighter from Uzbekistan, where he faces a prison sentence for participating in the SVO

The head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for migration issues, Valentina Kazakova, took control of the issue of resolving the legal status of special operation veteran Alexander Babkov, a native of Uzbekistan. This was reported by the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk in her Telegram-channel.

“Tomorrow he has been invited to the migration department in the Sverdlovsk region, where they will accept his documents for registration of temporary asylum. And then the issue of granting Alexander citizenship of the Russian Federation will be considered,” the message states.

Yesterday, December 4, TV channel RT spoke about 53-year-old native of Uzbekistan Alexander Babkov. He volunteered for the Northern Military District zone as part of the Wagner PMC. For performing service and combat missions, Mr. Babkov received the medal “For Courage” and several internal PMC awards.

Mr. Babkov cannot obtain the status of a combat veteran due to the lack of Russian citizenship. At the same time, his temporary residence permit in the Russian Federation expires in January 2024, and therefore he may be deported to Uzbekistan. In Uzbekistan, he faces up to ten years in prison for participating in a special military operation.
