Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Azat Kadyrov said that Russian athletes performing in a neutral status will not receive prize money in the Russian Federation for participating in the Olympic Games.
“They ride like no one from anyone, athletes must give up everything. If someone gets a license, we have to remove him from the Sports Training Center rate, all these expenses are borne by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). If someone wins a medal of any value, the corresponding issue will be raised,” Mr. Kadyrov said at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Physical Education and Sports (quoted by TASS).
The Deputy Minister of Sports said that 882.2 million rubles included in the Russian budget to pay prize money to Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympics in Paris will be redirected to support participants in the Friendship Games. International sports competitions of the Friendship Games under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation are planned to be held from September 15 to 29, 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. In addition, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov saidthat compensation payments will be introduced for athletes of the Russian national team who will not be able to get to international tournaments.
On March 28 of this year, the IOC recommended that Russians and Belarusians be allowed into international competitions only as athletes under a neutral flag. The organization stated that only those Russians and Belarusians who have not publicly spoken out in support of Russia in the military conflict with Ukraine will be allowed to compete.
