The Russian Federation pointed to the abuse of the US, France and the UK powers in the UN Security Council

The Russian side is concerned that the United States, France and Great Britain are abusing the powers of permanent members of the UN Security Council. Such a statement on Friday, September 1, was made at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Commenting on the resolution of the world organization to extend the mandate of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that for the first time the document was not adopted unanimously: Russia and China abstained because they failed to reflect a compromise that would take into account the position and opinion of Lebanon.

Formerly Russia could not support draft program for the US Presidency of the Security Council in August. Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the World Organization, explained that objections were raised by the intention of the United States to include the topic of Ukraine in the program, although it usually includes meetings arising from the mandate-and-report cycle controlled by the UN Secretariat. The Security Council did not accept anything similar in relation to Ukraine.

In addition, Russia noted that it would insist on the expansion of the UN Security Council from countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted the disproportionate composition of the UN Security Council, where the so-called golden billion occupies six seats out of 15 members.
