The Russian Embassy in Riga in its telegram channel reported that after the petition to demolish the monument to the poet Alexander Pushkin appeared, the Latvian authorities should have thought about dismantling the monuments erected in honor of the classics of Latvian culture, because they used the Russian language.

“Many well-known representatives of the Latvian nation, for example, the writer Janis Rainis, the artist Janis Rozentals, the composer Jazep Vitols were educated in the universities of the Russian Empire in Russian,” the diplomatic department added.

The embassy clarified that, following the logic of the authors of the petition for the demolition of the monument to Pushkin, the above-mentioned Latvian public figures should also be included in the “black list”. Among other things, it is necessary to demolish the monuments dedicated to them and nullify their role in the development of Latvian culture.
