Relations between Russia and Japan tend to deteriorate, Gennady Ovechko, deputy head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Japan, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“We not only do not see positive changes in the openly unfriendly course of the administration [Японии]but we also note a trend towards further deterioration of the situation: as the host country of the G7 events, Japan has set itself the goal of leading the efforts of “democratic like-minded people” to increase pressure on Moscow and increase support for the Kiev regime,” Ovechko said.

According to him, Tokyo, under “far-fetched and unfounded pretexts, introduced illegitimate personal restrictions, interrupted contacts in a number of areas, froze the gold and foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank,” etc.

In early April, a new package of export sanctions against Russia came into force in Japan. As part of it, the list of goods prohibited for export to Russia has been replenished – now the import of parachutes, braking systems, drones and components for them, balloons, gliders, etc. is prohibited in Russia.

On February 28, the Japanese authorities also introduced additional sanctions against the Russian Federation, then 48 individuals and 94 organizations fell under the restrictions. The list included Alan Lushnikov, President of the Kalashnikov Concern, Viktor Goremykin, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Andrei Alekseenko, head of the government of the Kherson region, and others.

Tokyo imposed an asset freeze on 73 organizations, including Rosbank, the Zvyozdochka ship repair center, the Vympel shipbuilding plant, the NPO Kvant, and others. Export restrictions were imposed against another 21. This list includes, among other things, Rosstandart, Ruselectronics and PMC Wagner.
