The Russian Embassy in Moldova assessed the consequences of staff reductions

Moldova’s decision to reduce the staff of the Russian embassy will complicate cooperation with Russia in the cultural, humanitarian, business and public spheres, and will also create problems for the citizens of the republic, declared TASS Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov.
Given the reduction in staff, the consular reception will have to be adapted for both compatriots and Moldovan citizens. The Ambassador of the Russian Federation also noted that the reduction affected, among other things, the Russian Center for Science and Culture – there remains only one seconded employee.
“But we intend to continue to work with our compatriots, together to contribute to the preservation of the joint military-historical heritage, to counteract attempts to distort the events of our joint past,” the head of the diplomatic mission explained.
On July 26, Chisinau decided to reduce the number of staff of the Russian embassy in the republic and announced the expulsion of 45 people.
On August 2, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Nicolae Popescu declaredthat the decision of Moldova to reduce the number of staff of the Russian embassy in the republic is a response to Moscow’s policy. Popescu added that the republic had established that some of the employees of the Russian diplomatic mission were allegedly engaged in “destabilizing the situation” in the country.
In the Kremlin declaredthat Chisinau deliberately brings relations with Russia “in a very miserable state” and the country’s leadership “cuts all the ropes.”
