This Russian Athletics Championship, which Cheboksary met, once again reminded – and very emotionally – of the insanely important role of a leader in sports. Anzhelika Sidorova became the undoubted star of the tournament. Showing such high results in the current competitive conditions in Russia (without face-to-face meetings with foreign rivals) is worth a lot. And she began to fight with her … Maria Lasitskene.

Silver medalist of the Olympic Games, ex-world champion Anzhelika Sidorova competed at the Russian Championship with herself. So far, Angelica has no rivals in Russia who could impose a fight at serious heights. And this means that the adrenaline, so necessary for a high flight, needs to be taken out only from oneself. Pull it out, first creating it without rivalry, and then using it for its intended purpose.

Angelica became the champion of Russia already at a height of 4.70 meters, taken on the first attempt. Starting from a height of 4.55 meters, Polina Knoroz was Sidorova’s only rival. But 4.70 on the first attempt was no longer taken, as twice and 4.75. In the rank of champion of Russia, Angelica flew 4.85 m. And then she overcame 4.91.

This height became a record of the championships of Russia. Angelica took it from Elena Isinbayeva: she has owned it since 2016 (4.90 meters). Set Sidorov and the best result of the season in the world. And then she beat herself – he belonged to her (4.86 m).

Joyful Angelica looked only in the first seconds after taking the height. Then – tears. The athlete says, if there is no goal, then there is no difference what result is shown. It’s clear what purpose he is talking about. This is the time for athletes suspended from international starts.

“I didn’t count on anything today, because …” And she seemed to say that she was satisfied with the result, but “the jump didn’t even turn out the best, it either made me happy or sad.” I compared the best result of the season – the previous one and the current one: “Both jumps are about the same level. And the emotions are the same.

Angelica’s personal record is 5.01 m. But this height is unlikely, according to Angelica, to please in the season. “When you splash out emotionally, it makes no sense to even try.”

And leadership and spectacular work in the sector are contagious in a good way. The sector may be different, but the emotions of someone else’s victory inspire. And now, after Sidorova, Maria Lasitskene was already smiling in the sector, conquering 2 meters for the first time in the season. True, at first she cried.

In fact, we were all worried about Masha. No, for all athletes, of course. But when in the sector, as it was at one of the recent tournaments, the Olympic champion cannot cope with negative emotions, it hits the nerves of the audience too.

But Mary is known for her character. The iron soldier of the high jump sector, three-time world champion, who for so many years has been forced, like our leading athletes, to prove, receiving the notorious neutral status, that she has the right to engage in her professional activities.

Lasitskene did not hide in Cheboksary: ​​it was Sidorova who got her started. She did something “magical, cosmic, incredible, I adore her! In my head, I competed with Sidorova.”

And she didn’t drive this thought away from herself, but on the contrary, Maria cherished: Angelica can, Angelica got together, she fought, and you must fight. As she herself says – to fight and try to pull the body to the result, to give all the forces in the sector not to dreams, but to actions. And he will also say: jitters in the sector are important, one must be afraid to lose.

She became the champion already at a height of 1.94 m. And then she took 2 m. And stormed 2.04 three times (the best result of the season in the world belongs to Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchy – 2.03 m.). Not this time.

Maria smiled and was not shy to admit that the height was two meters – “I’m done, it’s cool, it was psychologically important to show the result.” But … the leader immediately turned on: “I understood that more was possible and needed.”

Did you know that after beautiful flights of beautiful high-altitude women, their ribs hurt? “After I flew two meters, the next attempts were already superfluous, because it even hurt me to scream.” But coach Gennady Gabrilyan said: keep going. “So I already collected everything that was.” For both the athlete and the coach, such overcoming is important. You need to try yourself at heights, perform installations. “I tried to do this, but I asked for silence in order to lay out the installations.”
