The crew of the Russian Su-30 fighter was raised in connection with the discovery of the American reconnaissance drone MQ-9A Ripper over the Black Sea, no violation of the state border was allowed, informed press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

According to the defense department, on August 5, Russian airspace control systems detected an air target approaching the Russian border.

“In order to identify an air target and prevent violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, a Su-30 fighter from the air defense forces on duty was taken into the air. The crew of the Russian fighter jet identified the aerial target as a US Air Force MQ-9A Ripper reconnaissance UAV.

As the Russian fighter approached, the American drone turned around and the aircraft returned safely to its home airfield. Violation of the state border is not allowed, the Ministry of Defense added. They stressed that the flight of the Su-30 was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters in compliance with security measures.

At the end of June, Russian Su-27 aircraft intercepted three aircraft of the British Air Force, which were approaching the Russian border over the Black Sea. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation then clarified that the British RC-135 electronic intelligence and electronic warfare aircraft and two Typhoon fighters turned out to be air targets. When Russian fighters appeared, foreign planes turned around, the border was not violated.
