Russian Ambassador to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov took part in the inauguration of the president of this country, Javier Miley, and congratulated him on taking office, RIA Novosti reports, citing the embassy.
Feoktistov reportedly conveyed congratulations to Miley on behalf of the leadership of the Russian Federation, and also expressed hope for continued cooperation between Russia and Argentina.
“On behalf of the Russian leadership, Dmitry Feoktistov warmly congratulated Javier Miley on the occasion of his election to the presidency, expressing hope that the relations of friendship, mutual respect and strategic partnership connecting our countries will be continued for the benefit of the two peoples,” the statement follows.
Miley’s inauguration took place on Sunday. It was reported that US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will skip the inauguration, despite the fact that it is these countries that Miley intends to make Argentina’s main allies. As a result, the American delegation was headed by the head of the Ministry of Energy Jennifer Granholm, and the Israeli delegation by Foreign Minister Eli Cohen. The inauguration was also attended by heads of states such as Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador, Hungary and Ukraine.
Miley has previously stated more than once that he intends to stop promoting government ties with Argentina’s main trading partners – China and Brazil. According to Miley, he has no desire “to conduct common business with the socialists.” Miley had also previously decided to convert to Judaism.
