The International Chess Federation (FIDE) is considering changes to the regulations of matches for the world title, which could come into force already in the current cycle and affect the next match, scheduled for the end of 2024. FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich stated this in an interview with Kommersant.
Mr. Dvorkovich linked possible changes in the match for the world title with a “request to speed up the game” among chess fans. “There’s no getting around the fact that there really is a demand to speed up the game. But the discussion will be very thorough. It’s too early to predict anything,” the FIDE President emphasized.
Until now, championship matches have consisted only of games with classical time control. The tougher one was applied only in the event of a draw.
