The rules for surrendering a foreign passport in case of a travel ban have come into force – Kommersant

Starting today, December 11, the rules for surrendering foreign passports for Russians whose right to travel has been temporarily restricted have come into force in Russia. This follows from the corresponding resolutions government on November 24.

According to the document, within five days after notification of the restriction on leaving the country, Russians are required to deposit their international passport. They can submit it either to the authority that issued the document, or to the government organization in which they work and which has applied a restriction on the right to leave the country. When submitting the document, an acceptance certificate will be drawn up in two copies, one of which must be handed over to the citizen.

You can get your passport back either after the travel restrictions are lifted or if it expires. Issue is carried out on the day of application and under a personal signature in the accounting journal. If the application is not submitted at the place where the document is stored, then the passport can be obtained within five working days.

June 13, President Vladimir Putin signed the law on restrictions on traveling abroad for certain categories of citizens, as well as clarifying the rules on invalidating Russian passports. In particular, the document involves seizure foreign passports for citizens called up for military service in the Russian Federation. A service or diplomatic passport may be invalidated if it is not returned after a business trip without good reason.
