The decision to demolish the monument to the outstanding Soviet academician Mstislav Keldysh was made by deputies of the Riga City Duma. Parliamentarians decided to dismantle the monument by November 8 this year.

According to the NRA publication, the dismantled monument will be stored in the municipal warehouse, which is located in the Riga district of Čiekurkalns.

The sculpture of Mstislav Keldysh, a native of Riga, was installed near the city canal in 1978, the year of the death of the Soviet scientist.

In December 2022, the Riga authorities renamed Keldysh Street, which was located in the city’s Plavnieki district. Now the street is named after the Kaudzis brothers, Latvian writers.

Mstislav Vsevolodovich Keldysh is a Soviet scientist in the field of applied mathematics and mechanics, a major organizer of Soviet science, one of the ideologists of the Soviet space program.
