The Executive Committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) did not decide on the transition to the Asian Football Confederation and postponed this issue. UEFA, according to “Championship.com”opposes the RFU leaving their composition and moving to the Asian Confederation.
“Asia took a time-out, I think, until the middle of next week. There will be another discussion. Will there be a final decision? I think the executive committee will instruct the leadership to work out this option, ”said Igor Kamenskoy, a member of the executive committee and adviser to the president of the RFU, to reporters (quoted by TASS).
Previously in RFU declaredthat want to hold official matches. In April RBC wrotethat the union is considering three scenarios for the development of Russian football: “European”, “Asian” and “internal”. This is the expectation of lifting FIFA and UEFA sanctions, or leaving UEFA with a further transition to the Asian Confederation, or developing an internal championship and interacting with friendly countries.
On February 28, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian clubs from international competitions for the upcoming season. The RFU filed a motion with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but it refused to grant it. Head of UEFA Aleksander Čeferin saidthat the transition to the Asian confederation would have thrown Russian football back 100 years.
