Russian Football Union (RFU) introduced the composition of the national team for a friendly match with the Egyptian Olympic team. The match will take place today, September 7, in Suez. The meeting will begin at 19:00 Moscow time.
The main squad included: goalkeeper Stanislav Agkatsev (Krasnodar), Viktor Alexandrov (Paris Nizhny Novgorod), Vyacheslav Litvinov (Sochi), Andrey Langovich (Rostov), midfielders Alexander Kovalenko, Dmitry Vasiliev (both “ Zenit”), Danila Prokhin (Rostov), Daniil Kuznetsov (Rubin), Yaroslav Gladyshev (Dynamo), forward Tamerlan Musaev (Baltika). Spartak Moscow defender Daniil Khlusevich has been appointed captain of the national team.
On February 28, 2023, UEFA and FIFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from all international tournaments. The decision was made against the background of the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine in 2022. Due to the decision of UEFA and FIFA, the Russian national team does not participate in the qualification for Euro 2024. The RFU’s application to host the European Championship in 2028 or 2032 was also rejected.
After being excluded from international tournaments, the Russian team played five friendly matches against the teams of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Iraq. On September 11, the Russian team will play its second friendly match with the Egyptian Olympic team in Suez. Both games will feature players under 23 years of age. On September 12, the Russian team will play away against the Qatar team.
