The Russian Football Union does not leave the Union of European Football Associations, said Alexander Alaev, Vice-President of the RFU and President of the Russian Premier League. According to him, there are no plans to move to the Asian conference.

“We are members of UEFA, we are suspended from competitions, but we participate in all programs of the union. The situation is developing dynamically. I, as a fan, would like to play in Europe, but, unfortunately, politics intervened, where this will lead – no one knows. From a sports point of view, Asia is less attractive financially and in terms of the sports component,” said Mr. Alaev (quoted from Interfax).

According to him, if Russia is not taken to the next World Cup, then they will have to enter the Asian Conference. However, this issue was not discussed at the RPL executive committee.

At the end of March, RFU Deputy Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov announced that the Union was not going to move to other organizations. In May, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin named premature talk about the exclusion of the RFU from the union.

On February 28, UEFA and FIFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments due to the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian team is not participating in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
