The results of the referendum on the accession of the Kherson region to Russia will be announced within five days after the completion of voting, said Marina Zakharova, chairman of the Kherson region’s election commission.
“In accordance with the referendum regulations, we have five days to announce the results. Everything will depend on the situation, but in any case, we will announce the results after five days, ”she said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).
The day before, September 20, were approved dates of referendums in the territories of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR), Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. They will be held from 23 to 27 September.
The decision was made after the civic chambers of the LPR and DPR, on September 19, separately turned to the heads of the republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin, the next day, the public council of the Kherson region addressed the head of the pro-Russian military-civilian administration (VGA) Vladimir Saldo with a similar request for a referendum, as well as members of the movement “We are with Russia” – to the head of the VGA Zaporozhye region Evgeny Balitsky.
Against the backdrop of these events, today with an appeal to the citizens of Russia spoke President Vladimir Putin, in which he supported the idea of holding referendums. In addition, he announced a partial mobilization in Russia in order to protect the territorial integrity of the country and its sovereignty, the corresponding decree has already been published and entered into force.
