The military commissariat of St. Petersburg for the Admiralteisky and Kirovsky districts denied the distribution of subpoenas with a warning about the planned increase in the period of military service. Initially, information about such letters was published by Fontanka with reference to a reader who told reporters that he had received a notification from the said military registration and enlistment office.

According to the publication, after that, the head of the department for work with citizens of the military commissariat of the city, Vladimir Ogurchenkov, contacted the editorial office and explained that such a distribution was not made by the regional department. When asked how the letter got into the sealed envelope, Mr. Ogurchenkov found it difficult to answer.

“Honestly, I can’t say. Maybe the letter was opened and put away, I don’t know. At least the military commissar informed me that they did not send out such papers. It could be some well-wishers. Volunteers… I don’t know what else to call them,” he said.

The representative of the commissariat pointed out that there were no signatures and seals on the document that got into the network.

The term of service on conscription in the Russian Federation is 12 months. In October 2022, Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs offered to consider the option of returning two years of military service, but such an initiative did not find support among parliamentarians. In particular, Andrei Kartapolov, head of the Duma Defense Committee, said that this issue should be raised after the end of the special military operation.
