The head of the National Olympic Committee of Denmark Hans Natorp left the meeting of the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) during the speech of the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov. According to the representative of Denmark, the Russian Federation used the meeting for propaganda.
“I respect the fact that the head of the ROC is the chairman of the commission… I found the video presentation unacceptable propaganda, so I decided to leave the room,” Mr. Natorp told Inside the Games. He noted that he “felt embarrassed, as if he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Mr. Pozdnyakov heads the commission on education and culture. He delivered a report on the work of the commission. As noted by Inside the Games, the ROC President’s speech included two videos – about the International Forum of Young Olympians in Moscow and the international sports games “Children of Asia”. The ANOC General Assembly is being held in Seoul.
Mr. Natorp criticized the decision to admit representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus to the General Assembly. The president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, responded by saying that the organization would not “row everyone one size fits all” because of the actions of their government.
