The Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) believes that the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to extend the suspension of the Russian national team from competitions under the auspices of the IIHF for the 2024/25 season is being lobbied by the hockey federations of several countries that are afraid of competition in the international arena, it says statement FHR.

The Russian Hockey Federation noted that the meeting of the IIHF Council, at which the decision was made to suspend the Russian national team, was held without the participation of representatives of the Russian Federation. The FHR called this decision discriminatory.

As stated in the statement, the IIHF’s argument that the return of the Russian team to competitions “is not yet safe” also does not meet with understanding in the FHR, because teams from countries involved in armed conflicts continue to participate in international competitions.

12 February IIHF extended suspension of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from competitions under the auspices of the organization for the 2024/25 season. The national teams have been suspended from participating in tournaments since February 2022 due to hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.
