The Daily Beast named the reasons for the flight of thousands of Ukrainians from conscription into the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The American publication The Daily Beast interviewed several Ukrainian citizens who are hiding from conscription. Journalists asked people why they avoid the army and what motivates them. The authors of the article collected answers from real Ukrainian men who do not want to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine for various reasons.
One of the respondents, 31-year-old Sergei, explained that he did not want to lose his future and die. According to the young man, many soldiers who return home begin to have serious problems with mental health, alcohol and drugs.
Another interlocutor of the publication, 27-year-old Alex, said that he volunteered for the army at the beginning of the conflict, but he was sent home due to too many people wanting to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The guy said that he has a heart condition, but he still wants to help the Ukrainian Armed Forces, although he already refuses to volunteer because of the risk of being sent to the front line.
28-year-old Andrey, who legally left Ukraine in 2023, now lives in Europe. He said that he was exempt from conscription for health reasons, but in the current situation he does not have confidence in the authorities, and he is not sure that representatives of the TCC (military registration and enlistment offices in Ukraine – approx. ed.) they will not pick him up on the street and send him to the front line indiscriminately.
Earlier it became known that near Kharkov the father of a man forcibly mobilized into the Ukrainian Armed Forces killed a military registration and enlistment officer out of revenge.
