The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted for the resignation of Oleksiy Reznikov from the post of Minister of Defense, informed Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

“The Parliament supported the dismissal of Oleksiy Reznikov from the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to Zheleznyak, 327 deputies voted for the resignation, while four opposed the decision. The voting on the appointment of the former deputy of the Rada, chairman of the state property fund Rustem Umerov to the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine will take place on September 6.

The dismissal of Reznikov from office was announced on September 3 by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He explained the reshuffle by saying that the ministry “needs new approaches and other formats of interaction both with the military and with society as a whole.”

Deputy Zheleznyak reported that after Reznikov’s resignation, he would take the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK. Reznikov submitted his resignation to the Parliament and the President on September 4, he has served as Minister of Defense since November 2021.
