Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She was 96 years old.
Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain and the Commonwealth Kingdoms from the Windsor dynasty, Supreme Commander of the armed forces of Great Britain, Supreme Ruler of the Church of England, Head of the Commonwealth of Nations, as well as the monarch of fourteen independent states, died at her residence at Balmoral Castle, located in Scotland.
“The Queen has passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
On September 8, doctors who monitored the health of the queen reported that they were concerned about her condition. All the children of Elizabeth II arrived at the castle. It is also reported that Prince Harry is due to arrive in Balmoral.
Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. She ascended the throne after the death of her father, King George VI, in 1952 and reigned for 70 years. Her son Charles, Prince of Wales, who turns 74 this year, will now take the British crown.
While the British flag is flown at half mast over Buckingham Palace, Britain has declared national mourning, which will last ten days.
