The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova, believes that the riots at the airport in Makhachkala were aimed at inciting ethnic hatred. She called on the citizens of Dagestan “not to succumb to provocations and strictly follow the law and the calls of the authorities of the republic.”
“The events at Makhachkala airport are clearly aimed at inciting ethnic hatred and can lead to gross violations of human rights. The goal is to destabilize civil peace in Russia,” Ms. Moskalkova wrote in Telegram.
Regional ombudsman Jamal Aliyev called on protesters not to let “inciters control their emotions.” In his opinion, these instigators are “pushing people into illegal actions, taking advantage of the situation.”
