At least 30 municipal deputies from St. Petersburg have left Russia since the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the publication counted. Zaks.ru. This is almost a third of all Mundeps of the city with openly oppositional views.
According to the publication, based on conversations with the Mundeps who left, two waves can be distinguished in their emigration: spring, which began after the fading of street anti-war protests in Russia, and autumn, formed after the announcement of partial mobilization.
The deputies cited fear of criminal prosecution, unwillingness to be subject to partial mobilization, and concerns for the safety of relatives and friends as the most common reasons for leaving. At the same time, several people indicated that they planned to leave before February 24, 2022. Some returned to Russia after their departure to finish their personal and work affairs. At the same time, part of the Mundeps continue to fulfill their duties and receive salaries from the budget.
