Excessive consumption of sweet and starchy foods can lead to insomnia, told psychiatrist Elena Nikolaeva in an interview with News.ru.
According to her, an excess of refined foods in the diet: sugar, flour, rice can lead to sleep problems. Excessive consumption of such products leads to an increase in insulin, which, as a result of a chain of processes, releases adrenaline and cortisol into the blood – hormones that prevent falling asleep.
The specialist noted that ideally, in case of sleep disorders, you should refuse or at least significantly reduce the consumption of the above products, and add salads, vegetables, fruits and whole grains to your diet.
At the same time, Nikolaeva explained that insomnia is not just “I don’t want to sleep,” but a full-fledged disorder in which you can’t fall asleep for 20-24 hours.
With such symptoms, it is necessary to consult a doctor, because insomnia reduces concentration and vigilance, and a person suffering from such an ailment can behave like a drunk, have poor orientation in space, it is dangerous for him and others if he is driving a car.
