The prosecutor’s office requested 9.5 years for the former editor of Channel One Ovsyannikova

The prosecutor’s office demanded that former Channel One employee Marina Ovsyannikova be sentenced in absentia to nine and a half years in prison as part of a case of fake news about the Russian Armed Forces. Interfax reported this with reference to the prosecutor’s office.
In addition to the prison term, the prosecutor also asks the court to deprive Marina Ovsyannikov of the right to engage in activities related to the administration of Internet sites for a period of five years.
The basis for the criminal case was Marina Ovsyannikova’s picket on Sofiyskaya Embankment in Moscow in July 2022, a photo of which she posted on her Telegram channel. The poster contained text about the murder of Ukrainian children.
Shortly after the protest, Marina Ovsyannikova was detained. On the night of October 1, 2022, she escaped from house arrest and left Russia. Therefore, the case is being considered in absentia.
On March 14, 2022, during the evening broadcast of the “Time” program on Channel One, Marina Ovsyannikova burst in into the studio and behind the back of presenter Ekaterina Andreeva showed an anti-war poster live. The next day her fined for 30 thousand rubles. under the article on organizing an uncoordinated action (part 2 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).
For the second time to Marina Ovsyannikova imposed a fine in the amount of 50 thousand rubles. under the article on discrediting the Russian army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation) in July last year – for criticizing the criminal case against the deputy of the Krasnoselsky district of Moscow Ilya Yashin (recognized as a foreign agent).
Last August, Marina Ovsyannikova fined for the third time: by 40 thousand rubles. under an article about discrediting the RF Armed Forces for a post on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned). In Russia she was under house arrest, but ran away to Europe with my daughter.
