The Primorye Parliament terminated the powers of a deputy convicted of molestation

At its meeting, the Legislative Assembly of the Primorsky Territory prematurely terminated the powers of two deputies – speaker, United Russia member Alexander Rolik and member of the Communist Party faction Artem Samsonov.
Mr. Rollik, who was Speaker of the Primorye Parliament of two convocations – 2016 and 2021, appointed by a decree of Governor Oleg Kozhemyako as a representative of the regional executive branch in the Federation Council.
According to Kommersant, the vacant seat of the speaker of the Primorye parliament should be filled by Vice-Governor for Domestic Policy Anton Voloshko, who, however, has yet to be elected as a deputy. He is running in the 21st single-member constituency, for which by-elections are scheduled for October 29.
Artem Samsonov was deprived of his deputy mandate due to the entry into force of a court conviction. The politician was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph “b” of Part 4 of Art. 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (other actions of a sexual nature using the helpless state of the victim, committed against a person under 14 years of age).
According to investigators, in 2018, at one of the recreation centers in the suburbs of Vladivostok, deputy Samsonov showed an 11-year-old boy a dildo and “brought him information about its purpose.” As punishment for Artem Samsonov appointed 13 years in a maximum security colony. During the investigation and trial, the politician flatly refused to admit guilt. He insisted that the accusation was politically motivated and based on a slander.
The revocation of Artem Samsonov’s mandate passed without debate, but out of 36 deputies present at the meeting, 13 voted against (the Communist Party faction includes 11 people).
