The Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, categorically opposed the sending of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He told Der Spiegel that the German government had already crossed red lines by providing Ukraine with Leopard tanks. Now, instead of military assistance to Kyiv, the West should find “new, intensive diplomatic initiatives” to resolve the conflict, he said.
Meanwhile, German MP Johann Wadephul warned against high expectations from the Taurus, stressing that the missiles would not be a miracle weapon for Kyiv’s “counteroffensive”. Wadeful said, “It’s more important for us to stay prepared for a protracted war.”
Earlier it was reported that Berlin was reprogramming long-range Taurus cruise missiles before transferring them to Ukraine so that they could not reach Russian territory.
