Today, the city has more than four thousand industrial sites with a total staff of more than 720 thousand people. Every year, up to 50 medium and large enterprises and about 100 small ones open in the region.

Moscow produces a variety of goods, from clothing and footwear to medicines and sophisticated medical equipment. About how the largest city in the country from year to year maintains the status of a center of attraction for industrialists in Russia, we tell in our material.

Leading development rates

In July 2023, Moscow became the first in the rating of the effectiveness of the implementation of industrial policy. The experts compiled the top regions based on five indicators. These are economic development, the regulatory framework and support measures from the regional authorities, interaction with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Industrial Development Fund, business activity in the region, as well as digital transformation. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin notedthat Moscow has a very high-quality personnel market, “and the higher the technology in production, the higher the productivity, the more important it is not the number of people who have a smaller payroll and make a profit, but the high level of engineering school, technical school, and this opens up opportunities, a niche for Moscow, for the development of a new industry.”

“Thanks to the agreements that were signed with business, public-private partnership projects are being implemented in the capital. Among them are contracts for the supply of medical equipment and the renewal of urban transport, concessions in the areas of ecology, education and social services, as well as offset contracts,” notes an expert on business development and government support, a member of the MRO Delovaya Rossiya Alexey Khizhnyak.

Moscow outpaces the average growth rate of investment in fixed assets by more than four times. In five years, investment in the city and production in the manufacturing industries have doubled, and last year Moscow’s share in Russia’s total investment exceeded 21%.

“On the example of the meetings held by the Committee, there is an increase in the activity of Moscow companies, the scaling up of production and a request to attract new personnel. And, most importantly, the readiness of the city to offer new support measures both for the territories in whose ecosystem innovations develop, and for the enterprises themselves,” the chairman of the MCCI Committee on Industrial and Innovation Policy is convinced Mikhail Kogan.

Moscow has returned prestige to work at manufacturing enterprises

In recent years, the city has seriously raised the reputation and demand for factory professions. Now these are automated production and modernized workshops. Highly qualified specialists work here, whose salary is envied by workers in many other areas.

“The city, which has witnessed centuries of history and numerous industrial revolutions, today continues to hold the bar of leadership in the field of production, establishing itself as an engine of innovation and industrial production in Russia. The development of capital production remains the most important factor in economic stability and provides employment for a significant number of residents,” notes a member of the MRO “Business Russia” and an independent director of the Federal Property Management Agency Alexey Ulitenko.

The demand for industrial personnel in the city is growing from year to year. According to the Moscow Department of Investment and Industrial Policy, the Moscow Technical School project is responsible for providing the sector with qualified personnel from 2021. Here you can take more than 90 educational courses. The project has released over 1.2 thousand people.

Business support and industrial robots

The city authorities pay great attention to helping businesses and introducing high technologies. “As the center of Russian industry, Moscow is developing innovative and environmentally friendly industries using digital technologies. Companies use robotic complexes and modern methods of waste disposal, and actively modernize their sites. Every third enterprise in the capital is considered high-tech. This contributes to the growth in output, which increased by 11.3 percent in the first six months of 2023 alone,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations Vladimir Efimov.

“Today we offer customers a range of digital products developed by our own specialists. It’s nice that our experience is being used more and more often: we implemented projects to migrate jobs for Russian Railways, migrated robots from the X5 Group company to our own Atom.RITA RPA platform, ”explained the head of the committee for digital technologies and innovations in the management of the Delovaya Russia” Svetlana Bormatova. She is convinced that the creation of products in the country is important for the development of Russia’s technological potential, which will become a pillar for the development of the economy.

The Moscow project “Bank of Technologies” selects IT solutions for the development of enterprises. The service has already hosted ready-made solutions or prototypes from domestic developers. Today, the registry contains more than 420 advanced proven domestic developments.

Capital companies are actively introducing innovative technologies into the production process. For example, the icraft company has been using a lens-making robot for eyeglasses since 2015. And at the Cheryomushki bakery, the robot forms the dough and puts the curd filling into the cheesecakes.

In addition, the city manages to provide its own needs for technology. The actively growing Moscow company Technored is engaged in robotic systems. Today it offers robotic systems for laser welding, palletizing robots and many other solutions.

Features and support

Thanks to the consistent and measured actions of the regional authorities, the capital has become a real magnet for people who dream of starting a business. In addition to innovations and high-tech industries, the city offers businessmen a whole range of business support measures. Entrepreneurs have access to tax incentives, assistance in choosing a location for localizing production at competitive prices, innovative solutions for organizing enterprises, and much more.

“Testing your developments in the urban environment of Moscow is considered to be a great success for every startup. And passing a successful approbation at the sites of metropolitan companies is practically a guarantee of the successful development of a business project anywhere in the world. Such a strategy is followed by technology companies of the capital, which have joined the program of pilot testing of innovations. Entrepreneurs have access to support measures under the 1764 program of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, and grants from the Moscow Government, which allow them to both form primary capital and reduce the interest rate on loans,” Alexey Khizhnyak summed up.
