The press secretary of the Moscow police department, who resigned amid the Golunov case, returned to the police

The former head of the press service of the main department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow, Yuri Titov, resumed work in law enforcement agencies. Agency “Moscow” informs that Mr. Titov has been appointed deputy head of the department for interaction with civil society institutions and the media. Yuri Titov left his post in 2019 after making a false report in a criminal case against journalist Ivan Golunov.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs told the Moskva agency that the departure of Yuri Titov was not connected with the Ivan Golunov case. The source explained that the employee was offered a job in the Moscow government, and now he “returned to the police within the framework of the law.”

In 2019, Ivan Golunov was detained on suspicion of selling and storing drugs. On the day of his arrest, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow published several photographs of the drug lab, which were allegedly taken in the journalist’s apartment. Mr. Golunov denied the authenticity of the photographs.

Later, the press service removed the photos and publicly acknowledged their unreliability. Yuri Titov was brought to disciplinary responsibility. A few days later, the criminal prosecution against Ivan Golunov was terminated. In 2021, it became known that Yuri Titov headed the press service of the Department of Regional Security and Anti-Corruption in the Moscow City Hall.
