The Presidium of the General Council of United Russia approved the decision of the conference of the Moscow City Regional Branch (MGRO) to nominate Sergei Sobyanin as a candidate for the post of mayor of Moscow. This was reported to TASS by the deputy secretary of the general council of the party, Alexander Sidyakin. According to him, the decision was made on June 10.
“The Presidium of the General Council of the Party approved the decision of the MGRO (on the nomination of Mr. Sobyanin for the post of Mayor of Moscow from the party.— “b”) on Saturday,” Mr. Sidyakin said.
Moscow branch of United Russia June 9 put forward Sergei Sobyanin as his candidate for the upcoming elections of the capital’s mayor this fall. For Mr. Sobyanin, this will be the first mayoral election in which he will run as a candidate from the party, and not as an independent candidate. In his election program he promised Moscow’s “completely revamped healthcare framework”, personalization of education and treatment, and an even more tangible reduction in crime rates.
