President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Lithuania, where the NATO summit is being held on July 11-13. This is reported by the local TV channel LRT.
The TV channel showed footage of the Ukrainian leader’s plane arriving at Vilnius airport from Poland.
In early July, Zelensky’s press secretary Sergei Nikiforov saidthat the visit of the President of Ukraine to Lithuania will depend on the situation on the battlefield.
Earlier, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan during a briefing in the capital of Lithuania confirmedthat United States President Joe Biden will meet with Zelensky at a NATO summit. Their meeting may take place on July 12.
The US president himself arrived in Vilnius the day before. Before the summit, he said that the United States supports the wording proposed by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Ukraine’s future membership in the alliance. According to CNN, Biden spoke seconds after the President of Ukraine criticized the wording of NATO on Twitter. According to him, only the possibility of inviting Ukraine to NATO is being discussed, but not its membership in the alliance.
The NATO summit takes place from 11 to 12 July in Vilnius. It was reported that a number of important decisions would be made during the event, and the countries would also discuss Ukraine’s entry into NATO. In particular, Stoltenberg announced the speech of NATO countries with a unified position on Ukraine’s membership in the organization.
