The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, warned that the organization had stopped funding neutral athletes. Athletes not allowed to participate in the Olympics, he said, continue to receive money. He explained that the cessation of funding is due to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC): athletes must abandon the flag, the anthem and the national Olympic committee.
Stanislav Pozdnyakov also said that the IOC may cancel the results of Russian athletes at the Paris Olympics after their participation in the Friendship Games. They will take place in September 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
“Among the athletes who will receive support from OCD, there are no neutralized athletes. The ROC has completely stopped funding the neutralized athletes,” Mr. Pozdnyakov told reporters (quoted from “RIA News”).
On December 8, the IOC announced that 11 individual neutral athletes had qualified for the Paris Olympics: eight with Russian citizenship and three with Belarusian citizenship. Yesterday, December 14, the organization changed the number of licenses issued to Russians: now athletes from the Russian Federation have five, and Belarusians have six. They will perform in sports such as wrestling, cycling, rowing and swimming.
