The President of Georgia called the protests a “Russian strategy of destabilization”

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili accused the government and parliament of the republic of provocation against the backdrop of a rally in Tbilisi near the parliament building against the law on foreign agents.
According to the politician, “the second night of a large-scale protest action in Tbilisi against the Russian law has already begun.”
Zurabishvili also called the actions of the Georgian Cabinet and Parliament “a Russian strategy of destabilization.”
On April 16, the Georgian parliament considered the bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” in the first reading. The meeting took place against the backdrop of protests that began on Monday, when the bill was approved by the parliament’s legal committee. Mass protests continued until late at night, and in parliament itself deputies got into a fight.
Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov rejected attempts to link the consideration of the bill on foreign agents in Georgia with Russia. The Kremlin speaker pointed to “It’s absurd to consider this a Russian project”recalling that many countries use legislative mechanisms to counter the influence of foreign agents.
