Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili the only oligarch in Georgia. She made this statement in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde.
According to her, she is not aware of the level of interference of the former prime minister in the country’s economy. At the same time, according to the leader of the state, he has a dominant influence on the current elite.
“The answer to de-oligarchization, I think, lies in the upcoming elections. We have been in a one-party system of government for thirty years….we need as free elections as possible…”, says Zurabishvili.
In addition, the president of the republic accused Ivanishvili of sympathizing with the Russian side. In her assessment, the ex-prime minister is unable to imagine Russia’s loss and is trying to adapt to its victory in advance. The Georgian leader also believes that the entrepreneur plays a negative role on the country’s path to joining the European Union.
