President of the Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya supported the actions of the Russian authorities to ensure the security of citizens and stability in the country against the backdrop of an attempt to organize an armed rebellion on June 24. He stated this in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, reported Kremlin press office.
The conversation took place on the initiative of the Abkhaz side, the Kremlin specified.
“Aslan Bzhaniya expressed his full support for the actions taken by the Russian leadership to protect the rule of law and constitutional order, ensure the safety of citizens and stability in the country,” the message says.
The parties also discussed a number of issues on the bilateral agenda, including the implementation of the plans for the socio-economic development of Abkhazia, the Kremlin added.
On June 24, an armed rebellion was attempted in Russia, during which the founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced a campaign against Moscow, and also blocked Rostov-on-Don and took control of the city’s military facilities. On the evening of the same day, after negotiations with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Yevgeny Prigozhin decided to stop the movement to Moscow and return the fighters to the rear camps of the Wagner PMC. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov explained that as a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached: the criminal case initiated against Prigozhin would be terminated, and he himself “would go to Belarus.” On June 27, the FSB closed the case.
On June 27, President Putin said that the Russian military had “virtually stopped the civil war.” The head of state noted that units of the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and special services during the events of June 24 ensured the reliable operation of “the most important control centers”, strategic facilities, as well as the security of border regions.
