The lawyer of the former Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Strelkov (Girkin) Alexander Molokhov said TASSthat the preliminary investigation into his client’s case has been completed. The case has been transferred to the prosecutor’s office for approval of the indictment, Mr. Molokhov added. Igor Strelkov is accused of public calls for extremism.
The defense of the former head of the DPR Ministry of Defense claims that the reason for the criminal case was two posts on Telegram about events in Crimea and problems with the pay of military personnel in two regiments. The charged article carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
On July 21, Igor Strelkov was detained and sent to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. On September 12, the Meshchansky Court extended his arrest until December 18. The FSB, which is investigating his case, applied for an extension of the arrest. Contesting the motion, the accused said, which cannot hide from the investigation, since he is wanted by Interpol as a convicted person in the case of the airliner crash (flight MH17) in 2014. The court declared the extension of arrest legal.
