An interesting personnel decision was made by the Federal Penitentiary Service. At the Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 5 “Vodnik”, where the actor Mikhail Efremov, the “new old” boss, was imprisoned. Vodnik was headed by Dmitry Komnov, a man of truly amazing and contradictory fate.

Let me remind you that Dmitry Komnov was the head of Butyrka. After the death of Magnitsky, a lawyer from the HermitageCapital Management fund (and he was in this particular pre-trial detention center, although he died in Matrosskaya Tishina), Komnov ended up on the famous list. Either the story of the death of a lawyer affected, or some other reasons, but Komnov entered the Orthodox St. Tikhon Humanitarian University.

While still a “citizen chief”, he graduated from the Department of General and Russian Church History on the topic “History of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos at SIZO-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow.” In one of his interviews, he recalled the words of the Apostle Matthew: “I still have the opportunity to serve God, confirming the words of Scripture “I was in prison, and you came to me” …

Komnov also talked about how he began to communicate with prisoners in a new way. “Sometimes you enter their cell, see mournful faces and say in the words of Scripture: “Rejoice and be glad, for the Kingdom of Heaven has come near to you!”

But this is where Komnov’s spiritual and career transformation has just begun. He unexpectedly quit and … submitted documents to the PMC of Moscow. Interestingly, Komnov passed the selection, although really well-known human rights activists did not get into that convocation.

The fact that Komnov was included in the members of the POC caused a huge scandal. Journalists discussed for a long time whether it is possible for the head of Butyrka to become a human rights activist overnight?

Be that as it may, Dmitry Komnov immediately began his new activity and became one of the most demanding, if not picky, members of the POC, because he knew the system from the inside. In some pre-trial detention centers, officers even took offense at his tough reports.

Then Komnov disappeared from the field of view of both jailers and human rights activists. And then he unexpectedly returned as the head of SIZO No. 5.

Recall that this is the only pre-trial detention center where juvenile male prisoners are kept. Here there was a sad incident with the death of the top manager of Roscosmos Yevdokimov. After that, the pre-trial detention center was headed by Denis Papusha, under which the detention center regained its former glory as one of the best in the country. According to some reports, Papusha will be transferred by the head of another pre-trial detention center.
