“The post-Soviet space is under the rule of negative trends”

The Russian Ambassador was summoned to the Armenian Foreign Ministry because of a program on Channel One. In Yerevan, the epithets addressed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan were considered offensive. Meanwhile, the State Duma postponed indefinitely the adoption of a bill on the recognition of Armenian driver’s licenses. According to the initiators of this decision, the document contradicts the interests of the country. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize fears general discord in the post-Soviet space.
The State Duma decided to indefinitely postpone the bill on the recognition of Armenian driver’s licenses in the Russian Federation. The document was submitted by the government and adopted in the first reading in June 2022. The Chairman of the Lower House, Vyacheslav Volodin, gave the following comment on this matter: they say, they wanted to help you, but your authorities did not bother to legislate the official status of the Russian language, and if so, then we will not meet you halfway. This measure is valid for Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, but excuse me.
It is no secret that relations between Moscow and Yerevan are deteriorating literally before our eyes. The Republic, as is known, ratified the Rome Statute. We won’t say any more about what this means. Naturally, driver’s licenses are a much more sensitive measure than unexpectedly toxic Armenian cognac or tomatoes, in which, during political complications, by a strange coincidence, terrible microbes and pests are found.
About a million Armenians live in Russia, many come to earn money, which is associated with various types of transportation. The meaning of all this will be clear in Armenia: there is another government, more loyal than Nikol Pashinyan – there will be no problems with cognac, and with rights, no doubt.
We will not make forecasts on this matter. Instead, we will go to Kazakhstan, where, in the meantime, the NATO Peacekeeping Operations Center has been inaugurated. There they will train Kazakh military and volunteers to resolve conflicts according to Western standards. Some in the Russian Federation were outraged by this. Meanwhile, this is not all.
The EU-Central Asia meeting took place in Luxembourg. The foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, to one degree or another, assured colleagues from 27 EU countries that they do not intend to violate the sanctions regime against Russia.
Now the Western former partners are preparing the next 12th package of restrictive measures. The main thing is the fight against bypassing restrictions. The effectiveness of all these actions largely depends on post-Soviet countries, including Asian ones.
Every day it begins to seem more and more that not only Armenia can go astray. As if one of the other allies would not be in company with her in the near future. So Moldova is leaving the CIS. It’s unclear what’s going on in Georgia. And not all is well with Kazakhstan for a long time. The post-Soviet space is increasingly under the influence of negative trends.
