Pope Francis in an interview with La Nation told details of several meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The pontiff called Putin a man of culture. He said that the Russian leader visited him three times and held high-level conversations.
“Once we talked with him about literature,” Francis said.
He noted that Putin is “a person who not only speaks Russian, he also speaks excellent German and English.” The pontiff said: “It’s cultural.” And he emphasized that “culture is something acquired, and not a moral profession, these are two different things.”
In this interview, the Pope also once again declared that he was ready to go to Kyiv, where he was constantly invited, only on one condition: if he visited Moscow as well. But he considers a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky unlikely.
