In official Polish documents and cartography, Kaliningrad will be designated as Krulevets, and the region – Krulevetskaya, this decision was made in Warsaw.
According to the Minister for Development and Technology, Waldemar Buda, Poland does not want “Russification”, so this region will be called in its own language.
In addition, according to him, the Poles consider Mikhail Kalinin a criminal who is allegedly responsible for the decision on the mass execution of Polish soldiers in Katyn. “This causes negative emotions in Poland,” Deutsche Welle (foreign media agent) quotes him as saying.
Moscow criticized this decision of the Polish government, noting that it “borders on insanity.” As the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov noted, throughout history, Poland “from time to time slips into this madness of its hatred of the Russians,” which brings “nothing good for Poland and the Poles.”
The authorities of the Kaliningrad region called Warsaw’s decision “an insinuation” and urged adherence to official toponyms. “With the same success, we can call Gdansk Danzig, and the Republic of Poland the Kingdom of Poland,” said Dmitry Lyskov, head of the press service of the regional government.
