The Polish Foreign Ministry protested to the Ukrainian ambassador over Zelensky’s statements

Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland Pavel Jablonski expressed a strong protest to the Ambassador of Ukraine in Warsaw Vasily Zvarych because of the wording contained in the statement of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the UN General Assembly forum. The Polish side did not agree with Zelensky’s theses that some EU countries are imitating solidarity while indirectly supporting Russia. The Deputy Foreign Minister indicated that this statement does not correspond to reality in relation to Poland.

Jablonski noted that putting pressure on Poland in international forums or filing complaints in international tribunals are not appropriate methods for resolving disputes between states. He also emphasized that these actions will not be effective in relation to Poland: the Polish government protects the interests of Polish farmers, which is in accordance with national, European and international legislation.

In addition, the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed concern about public statements by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, “imposing one-sided optics regarding the multidimensional problem of exporting Ukrainian agricultural products to neighboring countries.”

Jablonski expressed the hope that the policies and public communications of the Ukrainian authorities should reflect the actual nature of Polish-Ukrainian relations, as well as take into account the unprecedented assistance that Poland provides to the Ukrainian population and state.

From September 15, the European Commission (EC) took off embargo on the import of Ukrainian grain to Eastern European countries. Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki announced about extending the ban. Other countries, including Hungary and Slovakia, also disagreed with the EC’s decision. September 18 Ukraine filed claims to the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, which renewed the embargo against the import of Ukrainian agricultural products into their domestic market.

Polish President Andrzej Duda stated, that Ukraine should remember that it receives assistance from Poland. He also emphasized that if the Ukrainian side files a complaint, Poland will be able to explain the situation in the tribunal.
