The expert predicted the future of relations between Russia and Armenia

The head of the Expert Council of the Strategic Development Fund, Igor Shatrov, expressed his opinion on the impact of the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh on relations between Russia and Armenia in an interview radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda”. He emphasized the importance for Russia of maintaining its role as a peacemaker in the region.
The expert believes that Russia should first of all be concerned about what changes may occur in Armenia after the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, as this may affect the interests of Russian business and citizens. He also noted that Russia’s influence in Armenia remains strong. According to Shatrov, Russia has a military presence in Armenia, economic ties and is a key mediator for Armenia in negotiations with Azerbaijan.
Shatrov also expressed doubts about the intentions of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, saying that he does not protect Armenian citizens. He emphasized that Russian peacekeepers play an important role in ensuring security in the region. In general, the expert believes that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh will not necessarily end up in an anti-Russian context and can be resolved with the participation of Russia as a mediator.
