A resident of Kyiv, Natalya Popovich, published a petition on the website of the City Council demanding that this year, under martial law, a traditional Christmas tree on Sofiyivska Embankment not be put up in order not to spend money on purchase, installation and dismantling.
Popovich proposes to transfer the saved funds to the Ukrainian army or to the settlers. She also notes that citizens can decorate their homes with New Year’s attributes and do without the city’s main New Year tree this year.
She also suggested that all New Year’s celebrations be postponed this year.
Earlier, the organizer of last year’s New Year’s holiday on Sofia Square, Igor Dobrutsky, confirmed that the Kyiv authorities had ordered the installation of the main Christmas tree and sketches were already being created and scenarios for the holiday were being developed.
