Pentagon confirms missile attack on base in Iraq
The Pentagon’s Central Command confirmed a rocket attack on its Ain al-Assad base in western Iraq, TASS reports.
The department said in a statement that several American military personnel may have been injured and are currently being examined. The Pentagon said the base was targeted by “Iran-backed militants.”
“A number of American military personnel are being examined for traumatic brain injuries. At least one Iraqi soldier was wounded,” the report said.
The statement notes that most of the missiles were shot down by air defense systems, but some hit the base. The damage is currently being assessed, the department said.
