Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder confirmed the destruction of a Turkish drone in Syria, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, the reason was the fact that the US military saw it as a threat, as the Turkish drone was approaching US forces in Syria. As a result, a decision was made to destroy the device, which was done with the help of an F-16 fighter. However, he admitted that there is no evidence that the Turkish drone was aimed at American troops.
Ryder noted that this incident was “regrettable” and had already been discussed by the heads of the defense departments of both countries, and Pentagon head Lloyd Austin confirmed the Turkish side’s “commitment to close coordination.”
Turkey is one of the United States’ leading allies, Ryder said.
Earlier it was reported that Turkey, using drones, carried out an air operation in Syria, during which targets of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party were hit. Turkish security forces are conducting anti-terrorist operation “Heroes” across the country after an attempted terrorist attack on Sunday morning near the Interior Ministry building in the center of Ankara.
