A piece of the lower lip will now be worn in … shorts by a 68-year-old resident of Orekhovo-Zuev, who is faced with a delicate urological problem. The pensioner had difficulties with the administration of small needs. When the doctors found out the cause of the disease, they explained to the patient that they would have to build up tissue in his intimate area. And for this you need to borrow a fragment of flesh from another place.

As it became known to “MK”, ​​an examination of an elderly man revealed a rather rare age-related pathology – a narrowing of the urethra. Since this condition inevitably leads to chronic renal failure and a decrease in life expectancy, the patient was urgently sent for surgery. Part of it turned out to be plastic.

“To expand the urethra, the patient was offered transplantation of the lower lip,” said Nikita Naumov, urologist at the Orekhovo-Zuevskaya hospital. – We took the graft after we determined the length of the narrowing. Thanks to the operation, the patient avoided many additional interventions.

Doctors had several alternative ways to treat the patient: from installing special stents to using a metal rod to expand the lumen of a tubular organ. But the experts opted for urethroplasty, using not the most popular material – part of the lip. Usually, in such operations, doctors prefer to remove the flap from the buccal mucosa, but the problem is that it does not have its own blood supply, so patients are at risk of rejection. Part of the lip seemed like a better option to the surgeons because the graft has its own blood flow, and they guessed right. There were no postoperative complications.
